JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Director of APRN Practice, with support from the Director of Nursing and the Medical Director, the Student Health and Wellness Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) provides patient-centered medical care for all eligible students at the University of Connecticut. The APRN provides clinical care in an ambulatory care environment delivered with a public health equity focus advocating for improved access, quality, and cost-effective care. Provides professional clinical medical services, including acute episodic illness and/or injury, chronic disease management, and health maintenance. With general supervision, functions independently within the scope of departmental and institutional policies and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides primary medical care for undergraduate and graduate students and promotes the health and safety of the student population. Provides emergency medical services, as needed.
- Conducts comprehensive health assessments of patients to diagnose and treat potential, acute, and/or chronic health problems and medical/mental health risk factors.
- Manages public health issues affecting the student population, including but not limited to emerging infectious diseases. Follows reporting requirements and collaborates with state and local health departments.
- Maintains accurate and confidential medical records. Documents medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care) standards.
- Orders, performs, and interprets laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures. Refers patients to specialty care, as needed.
- Admits to an eight-bed inpatient service, managing patient care from admission through discharge.
- Educates and instructs patients on preventive care, medical/mental health issues, and the use of prescribed medical treatments and/or prescriptive medications.
- Exercises customer service skills in meeting the needs of the patients.
- Participates in continuing medical education activities both within and outside Student Health and Wellness, including health promotion and outreach activities.
- Acts as a preceptor, mentor, and clinical consultant to support the development of other advanced practice registered nurses, professional nurses, student learners, and interdisciplinary colleagues.
- Serves on multiple committees within Student Health and Wellness.
- Participates in peer review and the development of evidence-based interventions and best practice guidelines used in clinical practice.
- Presents and participates in regional and national professional organizations that influence advanced practice nursing and/or health outcomes of a population focus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in nursing or a related field.
- Three years of current advanced practice nursing experience.
- Currently licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the state of Connecticut, Board certification as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner.
- Evidence of completion of a Nurse Practitioner program from an accredited educational institution.
- Current, unrestricted Controlled Substance Registration by both the State of Connecticut and Federal DEA.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize and integrate appropriate technologies for managing patient care.
- Must have a demonstrated understanding of and stated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity issues.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills necessary for patient care delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to fast-moving environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in Primary/Family model of care.
- Demonstrated understanding of public health principles.
- Behavioral Health Care Experience.
- Gynecological Care Experience including management of LARC.
- Gender Affirming Care.
- Simple suturing/I&D.
- Practice without collaborative agreement.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a permanent position that can be full-time year-round (12 months) or have up to two months of leave time mid- May to mid-July. This position is expected to begin November 29, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter. The ideal candidate will work five days a week with a Saturday rotation during the academic calendar. A reduced weekly schedule could be considered. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
